Another Delayed Update
Hi Readers.
So today I'm here to talk about a variety of things again. I know I have been terrible at updating, and that is only because I have been having technical difficulties with my computer. I think I will start talking today about Flashcard Programs.
Since I have recently graduated from college, I have been looking into flashcard apps and sites I can use to study in all of my downtime. The two I am currently torn between are Anki and Studyblue. I know that Studyblue is new and quite popular right now, but I know a lot of people use Anki specifically to study Japanese, so there would be more pre-made card sets I could use. I can preview a few sets on Studyblue, however I really don't know what they have besides the basics of hiragana and katakana. With both of these I can make my own flashcards and send them to the app on my smartphone. I think I might start with Anki and switch to studyblue only if a problem occurs just because of how many friends I have studying with anki. Although I think Studyblue is really neat and crisp and organized well.
Secondly, I wanted to say that a lot of sudden employment programs on Facebook have been targeting me. I think it is all due to Google's insights on my search history and probably blogs. One such company that I started to look as was Pasona N A, Inc. I am interested because their page is actually in English (here and there) and is targeting people such as my self--who know Japanese and have an interest working overseas. I think that it is important to take a look at these companies because it is not just a way to get paid, but a great way to improve my language skills as well. It makes me a little anxious because I feel that my language skills are inadequate and that I am not as qualified as I could or should be. But I think I will try to apply to some of them anyways.
Thirdly, I am surprised by the growing popularity and introduction to mainstream Japanese popular culture is. For example, Heroes of Cosplay is on the Science Fiction Channel. Best Ink is having an Anime themed season currently. I believe the commercial for the upcoming episodes shows one person being critical of another by saying "it doesn't look Asian enough!" As a result of that kind of statement, I have more mixed feelings about the types of shows coming out now. I feel like it should be studied, this effect on the mainstream and how such statements in these kind of competitive reality TV shows are influencing the populace.
Fourthly, the Japan Times. I forget they exist. They have a really cool website that keeps English and Abroad people up to date on important social, historical, and more information. They recently published an article about Female Asian artists and their portrayals of Gender in their art. It is really interesting because their styles and views are completely different from how Western Female artists portray gender and gender ambiguity.
Also, my friend just posted this link on Facebook about The Simpsons' shout-out to anime during their final season(s). Click Here because it is really cool and you know you want to watch it. I love how many cultural references The Simpsons can cram into an opening.
I guess I can also give you guys a word of the day:
