I stumbled upon this movie, Meatball Machine, during one of my horror film binges on youtube. When I found it I knew I just absolutely had to watch it with my ex because this was the kind of cheesy shout out to an era past of filming style. Meatball Machine was an absolutely fantastic film. It was like combining early nineties power rangers with the same level of gore as most contemporary Hollywood films. The film honestly looks like it was made in the late eighties, but was actually made in 20xx. The general plot of this film is about a young man who loves a young woman who has a brutal background while aliens attack them. That is the best I can sum it up without it becoming too over the top. The very end of the film involves some of these aliens actually using the title of the film in their nefarious plans against the star-crossed lovers.
Meatball Machine is a film that I think can only be found in subtitles and would be best in them anyways because the words will not fully answer all questions a viewer might have about the plot. There are moments when the female character speaks about her background, but there really isn't much reason for her to be as dramatic or open so suddenly with the main character as she is. There is barely a need for character names even since they barely use them and people are generally shown as either being attacked by the aliens or fighting each other rather than having lengthy conversations. The ending is also ironic because these characters that barely know each other are being described as deeply emotionally attached, when we only know that he watched her from afar and she watched him from afar and they had one conversation... kind of until an alien attacked her. So some of the plot is a little sketchy like that, especially some of the dialogue, but it actually builds up in a great way where the viewer should really be attached to the main character before being thrust into a world of chaos and unimaginable schemes.
